Green light for extra care scheme in New Milton, Hampshire

Planning permission has been granted by Hampshire County Council for Fernmount, a new extra care scheme in New Milton, Hampshire.

Morgan Sindall Later Living will undertake design and build elements, and it is intended that the UK’s leading registered provider, Places for People, which, led by its specialist service delivery extra care division, PfP Living+, will become the long-term landlord and operational partner.

Fernmount will provide 35 one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom apartments at an affordable rent with optimum design and operational efficiency, including dementia-friendly guidance and assistive technology, so residents will be able to live independently in a ‘home-for-life’.

Laurence Basturkman, director at Morgan Sindall Later Living, said: “We are obviously delighted to receive planning permission for this important scheme for New Milton’s more senior residents who have extra care requirements.

“People are at the heart of everything we do, and our approach is underpinned by best-in-class design principles, always developing our schemes from residents’ and the community’s perspective. The Fernmount scheme will provide safe, homely, self-contained accommodation for adults with varying care/support needs and enable them to live independently, either on their own or with a partner. This bespoke, but affordable, residential solution offers apartments arranged in a single building, with communal areas located at the heart between two accommodation wings.

“Building on our strategic commitment to Hampshire and through our involvement with the Romsey Extra Care Scheme, we understand that deliverability, value-for-money and certainty are key requirements for Hampshire County Council and our focus is on generating additional tangible social value throughout the design, construction and operational phases.”

Morgan Sindall Later Living and PfP Living+ are working with architect, Melt, and have created a sustainable attractive scheme which is in-line with HCC Guidelines for Designing Extra Care Housing and HAPPI standards.

Work is now due to commence on site in at the end of the first quarter 2021.
